ABOUT
blinkinLAB is a motion graphics design studio formed in 2006 and based in East London. With a keen interest in the visual representation of music, their main focus has been creating animated stage visuals for music artists.
They have created animation for a huge range of music acts and events over the years including The Arcadia spider, deadmau5, Metallica, The Chemical Brothers, The Script, Pendulum, Leftfield and countless others.
Their portfolio of work also includes music video, TV idents and title sequences, as well as VJing, live audiovisual performance, and installations.
SELECTED WORKS
Arcadia Spider
blinkinLAB created every single animation that was ever projected on the spider or shown on any of the various LED surfaces, including the Jelly fish suits and their spawn (zorbs.) Coordinating with the show’s choreographers and lighting designers, we designed, animated and edited the multiple timelines needed for the ‘Landing’ and ‘Metamorphosis’ shows, both of which won TPI production of the year awards. As well as creating these animations we also created all the 3D assets that were necessary for the projection mapping process and oversaw the mapping on all shows. On top of that blinkinLAB VJ’ed for the all the spider shows including Glastonbury, Boomtown, Bristol and London and toured the world with the Arcadia Spectacular show at events in South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Ultra Miami and more.
Boomtown
blinkinLAB were first introduced to the wonders of Boomtown when the Arcadia Spider featured at the festival in 2014 and have maintained a connection since then. We worked with Video Illusions on the Sector 6, Area 404, Origin and Grand Central stages over the years. Since 2022 VI passed on all the graphics content and VJ management to blinkinLAB. Working directly with Boomtown creatives, we helped design the IONA character that has been introduced over the last few years as well as creating additional animation for the opening and closing ceremonies.
Pendulum
blinkinLAB have worked for Pendulum and their offshoot Knife Party for more than a decade creating graphics and VJing for their live shows and DJ sets. Starting in 2010 when working for Immersive.International we created full length animations for Pendulum's live show that culminated in a performance on Glastonbury's Pyramid stage. We toured Australia and the UK with the Immersive.International designed Haunted House show and went on to create all the visuals for Knife Party’s Halloween Crow show at Brixton Academy in 2015. We also created all the animated visuals and VJ’ed for the Pendulum Trinity Shows (PNDLMIII) at SW4 and Ultra Music Festival in 2019. Since the Pendulum live band have started touring again in 2023 we have created the majority of the animated visuals for the evolving show.
The Script
Working alongside production designers MIRRAD, blinkinLAB have worked with The Script for a decade beginning in 2012 when we created an animation for their huge hit ‘Breakeven’ for the ‘#3’ World Tour. We have designed and created all the animated visuals for every arena tour since the 2018 Freedom Child Tour, which was shortlisted for the Knights of Illumination ‘Video Content’ award. Working alongside internationally renowned video directors, we also create the real-time live video effects that embed the bands performance into the visuals to enable a more immersive show.
deadmau5
Working for 36North (formerly NE1CO) blinkinLAB have been creating animated graphics for deadmau5 for several years. We have created a number of different themed loops mostly based around the iconic mau5 head, as well as full length animations for whole tracks for huge shows including the Retro5pective show at Hollywood Bowl and beyond. We also created the bulk of the graphics for the deadmau5 and Kaskade K5 show that premiered at Coachella in 2023
